font size

Seven Abu Sayyaf suspects were sentenced to death on Wednesday by a southern Philippine court for kidnapping and killing a group of farmers in 2001.

According to the court in the northern province of Isabela, the suspects would be executed by lethal injection.

In August 2001, they disguised as soldiers to kidnap a group of farm workers in Lamitan town and killed 10 of them, the court said.

The Abu Sayyaf, which is placed by US government in its " foreign terrorist organization" blacklist, is notorious for a series of deadly bombings on bus, rail and ferry, as well as kidnappings of locals and foreigners.
